Scout & Molly's Quarry Village

Every year, San Antonio natives and tourists gather together in different parts of the city to celebrate Fiesta. This year’s Fiesta Festival stretches from Thursday, April 20th – Sunday, April 30th. If you live in San Antonio, you’ve probably already started planning for the event and thinking about what to wear! Scout and Molly’s is the perfect place to do some Fiesta shopping with the numerous bright and colorful pieces we have in store.

Boutique Clothes San Antonio

To understand the fashion behind Fiesta, we wanted to take a look back at some of the history of this event. The beloved festival began in 1891 when a group of citizens created the Battle of Flowers parade to honor the heroes who fought at the Alamo and in the Battle of San Jacinto. The fun colors you see at Fiesta today are reminiscent of the bright flowers used at the first Battle of Flowers parade, and vibrant colors have been a staple of the Fiesta Festival ever since.

What originally started as a single parade has turned into a ten-day celebration. This iconic, ten-day event is full of parades, parties, delicious food, and of course – lots of color. Events are open to the public and take place throughout the city. If you’re a San Antonio native, you know that some of the biggest and most popular celebrations include the Texas Cavaliers Parade, A Night In Old San Antonio (NIOSA), and the Battle of Flowers Parade.

If you’re planning to go to Fiesta, chances are you are looking for some bright and bold outfits to wear to these events. In this post, we’re going to showcase some of the pieces we’re carrying this Spring with Fiesta in mind. These outfits will not only keep you cool in the heat, but keep you looking chic and fashionable at your favorite Fiesta events!

Texas Cavaliers Parade

First up, let’s look at an option to wear to The Texas Cavaliers Parade. This is a family-friendly event taking place on the evening of Monday, April 24. Also known as the Texas Cavaliers River Parade, this event takes place across the San Antonio River Walk with a number of extravagantly decorated floats for onlookers to enjoy. The parade began in 1941 after a group of Texas Cavaliers had seen decorated boats and barges in Mexico City known as “floating gardens.” The Texas Cavaliers decided to bring the unique experience back to our city as the San Antonio River bend restoration began. Today, families can sit back and enjoy the show of beautifully decorated floats passing by on the historical landmark of the River Walk.

For this event, our yellow dress by Lucy Paris will show off a bold Fiesta color while still keeping you cool. This dress is on trend with a puff sleeve and offers a solid, bright color that will “pop” in photos.

NIOSA

Another popular event is NIOSA – a four-night festival taking place April 25th – April 28th in the heart of downtown San Antonio. With a special emphasis on celebrating the city’s diverse cultural legacy, NIOSA is a great opportunity to dress to impress and enjoy different types of foods.

NIOSA is a leading fundraiser for historic preservation in the nation, enabling the Conservation Society to preserve historic buildings and memorabilia relating to the history of Texas. NIOSA is known for its live music, dancing, many types of foods, drinks, and the opportunity to purchase various Fiesta souvenirs. Baby strollers aren’t allowed at this event, and there won’t be much entertainment geared toward the little ones, so it’s best to plan on an adults-only celebration.

This teal dress from Corey Lynn Calter is perfect for the NIOSA event. With a unique embroidered design, this piece puts a modern twist on the traditional Mexican “huipil” dress. This dress was made for the dance floor and the flowy design will keep you comfortable whether you’re eating, dancing, or walking around and exploring.

Battle of Flowers Parade

Last (but certainly not least!), you’ll need an outfit for the Battle of Flowers Parade that started it all. Beginning at 9:30 AM on April 28th, the well-known and most popular Fiesta event is great for the whole family to enjoy. Onlookers will enjoy marching bands, beautifully decorated floats, Fiesta royalty, and more! The 2.5-mile parade starts at Main Street near San Antonio College. It then travels south on Main to Lexington, then to St. Mary’s Street, Brooklyn Avenue, Avenue E, Houston Street, Alamo Plaza, and ends on Commerce Street near Santa Rosa.

Since this is a longer event where you will likely see just about everyone in the city, we recommend our Sofia dress with a gorgeous blue hue and dramatic length. This easy-to-wear maxi dress will keep you cool and comfortable while looking feminine and festive all morning long! This dress looks great paired with a flower crown or big colorful earrings.

If you’re interested in a more casual look, check out our boldly-patterned blouse by THML paired with these classic cut-offs from Kut from the Kloth. This comfortable combo is great if the weather is going to be warmer, and will look look fantastic paired with some summer sandals or casual sneakers.
